2010 was the year that…
The Gilded Balloon celebrated its 25th Birthday in style by hosting 3 nights of Anniversary Shows, featuring some of the Gilded Balloons most beloved performers from the past 25 years. Big names included Steve Frost, Sean Hughes, Johnny Vegas, Hattie Hayridge, Tim Minchin, Jo Brand, Tommy Tiernan!
2010 was another year for some of our fringe comedy favourites,
with Phil Kay,Craig Hill, Tom Allen, Dead Cat Bounce and Princess Cabaret returning for another year! The cream of Australian Comedy also stormed the Gilded Balloon again this year; Celia Pacquola, Felicity Ward, Dave Thornton, Sam Simmons and the Axis Of Awesome.
Caroline Rhea, better known as Aunt Hilda from Sabrina the Teenage Witch played to packed audience. Tommy Tiernan returned to GB Towers and showed everyone that he is really is the master of observational comedy.
It was another strong year for Children’s shows with more traditional shows like Jungle Book & Alice in Wonderland sitting next to newly devised shows The Prince of Cringe and Fairy Fail.
The wonderfully talented Richard Fry returned to Gilded Balloon again this year, with 2 new amazing pieces of theatre ‘Homo Asbo’ and ‘Smiler’.
Paisley born James Kirk wowed the judges to be crowned the winner of So You Think You’re Funny? Winner 2010.
Oh yeah and we won lots of awards….
